ENDLESS LOVE III

Summer Scent

While in college, Min-woo loses his first love Un-hae in a car accident. Her heart is donated to Hye-won, a high school student suffering from heart problems. Many years later, Hye-won is a professional florist with a bright and healthy personality. She is happily settled and engaged to her long-time boyfriend, Jung-jae.

Min-woo comes back from his studies in Italy, but is still grieving over his first love. Jun-ah, Jung-jae’s sister, is in love with Min-woo, who was her senior in Italy. She comes back from her studies as well, to track Min-woo down.

Hye-won sprains her ankle while hiking in the hills. She meets Min-woo who was hiking, and both spend a night in the hills where Min-woo takes care of Hye-won. During the chanced encounter, Min-woo finds many similarities between Hye-won and his deceased girlfriend, and is immediately attracted to her. Hye-won in turn notices that her heart beats in an uncontrollable manner when Min-woo is around, and is puzzled by the response. As Min-woo thinks Hye-won is married, they part ways without exchanging each other’s names and contact details.

As fate would have it, Min-woo and Hye-won have another chanced meeting at the hometown (tea garden) of Un-hae. They spend an unforgettable day at the tea garden, both feeling a connection. But they do not manage to exchange any information again this time. But as destiny has charted out for them, Min-woo and Hye-won will meet again because of the Kara Holiday Resort project.

Jung-jae’s hotel chain buys over a Holiday Resort and is planning to have it renovated. Min-woo’s proposal (who is an Artistic Director for such projects) is accepted as the winning bid.

When Min-woo and Hyw-won meet for the third time, both are formally introduced, and find out that they will be working on the project together. Min-woo also finds out that Hye-won is not married but engaged to Jung-jae. Min-woo sees his first love's shadow in Hye-won, and believes that Hye-won is the second person to let him love again. And with the commencement of the Holiday Resort project, the love lives of the 4 leads start to get complicated.

As both interact more during the project, Jung-jae notices the mutual attraction, and pushes for Hye-won to have their engagement ceremony. On the day of the engagement, Hye-won faints, and is admitted to the hospital. While she is hospitalized, Hye-won has a dream. She dreams that someone gave her encouragement, and a hand to lead her out of her coma. When she awakes, she thinks the person is Jung-jae. But later, when Hye-won eventually finds out that the person giving her those encouragements is Min-woo, she realizes that she is also in love with him.

Against all odds, Min-woo and Hye-won end up together. However, as both Jung-jae and Jung-ah refuse to give up easily, their union becomes strained with the guilt and emotional baggage of their previous relationships.

When it is eventually revealed that Un-hae’s heart is beating in Hye-won, it creates a further rift in their fragile relationship as both are confused whether their inexplicable attraction is due to this common link that they share, Un-hae’s heart. Min-woo is overcome with guilt on his treatment of Hye-won as Un-hae’s replacement. Hye-won is also unsure of her feelings for Min-woo, and as she does not wish to constantly remind Min-woo of Un-hae with her presence, Hye-won decides to break up with Min-woo.

Min-woo tries relentlessly to win Hye-won back, but convinced that he is burdened with his deceased girlfriend’s shadow in her, Hye-won decides to go back to Jung-jae and marry him to let Min-woo give up on her entirely.

On her wedding day, Hye-won finds out that Min-woo is leaving for Italy to continue his studies. And on his way to the airport, Min-woo drops by the hotel to take a last peek at Hye-won. Hye-won spots him with the distinct heartbeat she feels when Min-woo is around. She chases after his car and faints. Her condition has become critical as her body is rejecting the transplanted heart. In order to save her life, she has to go through a major operation. Hye-won is unwilling to have another operation, as she will possibly be bed-ridden for the rest of her life.

Jung-jae begs Min-woo to convince Hye-won to undergo the operation, and Min-woo agrees to talk to her. Hye-won agrees to Min-woo’s plea, but in exchange requests that Min-woo leaves Korea. Jung-jae lies to Min-woo about the results of the operations, informing him that Hye-won died during the operation.

But Hye-won actually survives the operation, and receives a man-made heart instead. 3 years later, Min-woo returns to Korea for another project. Both leads have another meeting, and Hye-won’s heart starts to beat and respond the same way when she passes by Min-woo.

MY GIRL

NICE STORY.... :)

mY GIRL (CAST)

The Cast

Lee Dong Wook

Let's all ask the universal question: How does Korea continuously churn out these handsome/super fine-looking males? For one thing, Lee Dong Wook acts as good as he looks in "My Girl". He is cast perfectly as the stubborn and somewhat inflexible Seol Gongchan who will do anything to fulfill his dying grandfather's wish. I did not think much of Lee Dong Wook until the last few episodes of "My Girl". That is when we see Dong Wook ditching his usually calm self in his pursuit of Lee Da Hae.

Lee Da Hae

Wow, I just love Lee Da Hae. I think the word 'beautiful' is an understatement for her. She is beyond beautiful, I think even drop-dead gorgeous would be a poor replacement. Nonetheless, no matter how great you look, it is the acting that speaks the loudest and I think Lee Da Hae made a marvelous improvement in that aspect. When I watched her in "Green Rose", my opinion of her was that she is a person who probably could only act in melodramas, because she was perpetually washing her face in tears. But life is full of surprises and her role as Joo Yoorin was absolutely eye-catching.

I lost count of the number of times I laughed throughout "My Girl" thanks to Lee Da Hae's performance as the comical Yoorin. And yes, she lies a lot in the show but most of the time, it's a white lie that should be considered forgivable. I personally think Lee Da Hae has what it takes to be right up there with Korea's top actresses at the moment. She certainly isn't lacking the beauty component, and her acting in this drama is certainly the best performance I've ever seen of her.

Lee Jun Ki

Sadly, Lee Jun Ki is reduced to mere eye candy in "My Girl". Not once in the drama did I feel that Jung Woong was more deserving of Yoorin than Gongchan. Although Lee Jun Ki would be proud to know that this was the drama that brought him the limelight, I do not believe that he excelled in his role of Seo Jung Woong. He spent too much time by the side crying about his inability to chase Yoorin.

But to be honest, he never stood a chance. Yoorin has only one true love: that would be Mr. Seol Gongchan.

Park Si Yeon

Similar to Jun Ki, Si Yeon doesn't particularly excel here. Perhaps, more famous to all, Park Si Yeon is the current girlfriend of Eric Mun of Shinhwa. Si Yeon basically acts as the jealous girlfriend/ex-girlfriend of Gongchan and half the time, she looks spiteful about Yoorin as the sister who steals Gongchan away from her.

MY GIRL

Joo Yoorin (Lee Da Hae) is a tour guide in a small company in charge of running mini tours in the Jeju Island of South Korea. Her father is a gambling addict, but despite all the debts that he runs up, Yoorin always finds a way to help repay them. She leads a below-average life but is happy as long as she has her dad around her. Because of her father's gambling ways, she has had to move from country to country whenever her father runs from one place to another to avoid their debtors. This has in turn brought her the ability to converse fluently in Chinese and Japanese, which are of great help as a tour guide whenever she has to entertain tourists from China and Japan.

Seol Gongchan (Lee Dong Wook) is the only heir of the owner of L'Avenuel Hotel, which is one of the top hotels in Korea. His grandfather, Seol Woong, charges him with the duty of finding his granddaughter, who is also Gongchan's cousin. Seol Woong had disowned his own daughter, Gongchan's aunt, when she decided to marry a man not of his choice. However, when Seol Woong had a change of heart and wished to accept his daughter back, an earthquake struck where his daughter lived, and since then, he has lost all contact with his kin and perhaps the chance to make amends for his own stubbornness, to take care of his granddaughter and hopefully make things right.

Kim Seohyun (Park Si Yeon) is the girlfriend of Seol Gongchan. A rising star in the tennis world, she returns to Korea to look for Gongchan as she cannot forget him.

Seo Jung Woong (Lee Jun Ki) is the son of one of the main shareholders of L'Avenuel Hotel and also the best friend of Seol Gongchan. Unlike Gongchan who is responsible and hardworking, Jung Woong is a flirt who is known to have many girlfriends.

The story starts with Yoorin rushing to the airport. She is helping her friend delay a flight so that the tourists of her friend will not miss their flight. Out of ideas, she plays a damsel in distress, who is apparently mourning her impending death and her dying wish to see her boyfriend who is apparently on the flight. And so after much crying and the entire airport empathizing with her, she gets to get on board the plane to look for her boyfriend who never really existed. As she walks, she realizes she cannot find anyone and pretends to faint. Alas, she faints beside the seat of our male lead, Seol Gongchan, who knows a liar when he sees one. Although their first encounter is weird, it doesn't leave much of an impression in each other's mind.

Later, however, when Gongchan has to entertain a bunch of Chinese visitors and realizes he has no translator, he engages the services of Yoorin coincidentally and through Yoorin, his potential Chinese investors have a great time at the L'Avenuel Hotel branch in Jeju, and Yoorin has much credit to claim for it.

After a series of comical events including Yoorin staying at his hotel lodge without paying, and Yoorin selling his hotel fruityard's oranges to make a small profit (to clear her father's debts again), Gongchan's impression of Yoorin is one of a cheat and he would want to do anything to distance himself from her.

But then word from mainland Korea is that his grandfather is dying and at his bedside, Seol Woong, through his respirator, can only meekly repeat that he must not and cannot die until he sees his granddaughter again.

Driven by desperation and his love for his grandfather, Gongchan will do anything to ease his burden. When pointed out by his secretary that Yoorin bears a resemblance to his aunt, Gongchan hatches a plan to pass off Yoorin as his grandfather's long-lost granddaughter whilst he carries on searching for the real one.

Yoorin, who is desperate for money to repay her father's debt, is unwilling to do the job as it involves lying to a dying man, something that she staunchly refuses to do. But when Seol Gongchan desperately begs her and she realizes she is somewhat indebted to him for not bringing her to the police after her little business in his hotel, she caves in and pretends to the long-lost granddaughter.

And so things seem to be going well, with the search for Gongchan's long-lost cousin making progress and perhaps more importantly, the improvement of Gongchan's grandfather's conditions thanks to Yoorin. As Yoorin spends more time with Gongchan's family, she gets showered with the love she never received as a child and finds herself drawn to Gongchan. She finds herself changing from the liar that she once was to a person who tries to tell the truth when she can. But she knows all too well that her one-sided love will never materialize as the difference in social status between Gongchan and herself is too big.

But unknown to her, Gongchan is also slowly being drawn to her...

Love Story In Harvard

LOVE STORY IN HARVARD

The first half of the drama is set at Harvard (although I believe it was filmed in California because they couldn't get permission to film it at Harvard). The story is essentially about the lives of Hyun Woo, Jung Min and Soo In. Hyun Woo and Jung Min, both first year law students, are rivals in class and for the affections of Soo In. Jung Min applies himself more and as such is the favourite of Professor John Keynes. Hyun Woo, who had a hard time adjusting to the workload in the beginning, falls into the bad graces of the professor. However, Hyun Woo perseveres and eventually wins the respect of Professor Keynes and his classmates. Both men meet Soo In and fall for her. This intensifies the rivalry between them.

Lee Soo In is a poor, kind, hardworking medical student at Harvard Medical School. Her ambition is to join OEP, an organization that provides medical care to patients in Third World countries. She is charmed by Hyun Woo's cheerful, persistent, idealistic and kindhearted nature and she falls for him. However, their relationship is short-lived when her application to OEP is accepted. She tells Hyun Woo about it and he tells her grudgingly to go. So, after spending a night with him, she leaves. In the note she leaves behind, she tells him that she isn't cut out for marriage and children. He is devastated.

Hyun Woo returns to Korea after graduating from Harvard Law School and sets up his own practice. He is still as idealistic and only accepts cases he believes in. He soon gains a reputation for himself. Jung Min stayed in the US after graduation but now returns to Korea to take on a case. Soo In is also back for 2 months in Korea to conduct some research. And predictably they all meet up again.

Soo In is pleased to see Hyun Woo again but he is still angry with her. He is upset she left the way she did and that she didn't try to stay in touch with him. He doubts she ever loved him. Jung Min is disappointed that after so many years apart, Soo In still can't forget Hyun Woo. She still loves Hyun Woo but she doesn't want to resume their relationship as she will be leaving again.

Hyun Woo takes over his late friend's environmental case and finds that the opposing counsel is none other than Jung Min. They face off again. Hyun Woo, unable to let go of Soo In, pursues her again and finally she relents. They spent a happy week together and then it's time for her to leave. Hyun Woo, in contrast to his younger immature self, tells her that he will keep her in his heart, knowing that she loves him. He will wait for her until she returns, but if she doesn't, he will still continue to wait. This is the most touching scene in the drama as each tries to put on a brave face for the other. At the airport, she assures him that she will return and promises that this will be the last time they part.

On her way to her departure gate, Soo In collapses and is taken to the hospital. At the hospital, Hyun Woo is worried but she lies that she faked her illness because she doesn't want to leave him. Hyun Woo reminds her of her promise.

Jung Min is warned by his client, Jason, that anyone who gets in the way of winning his case will be dealt with. Jung Min warns Hyun Woo but he refuses to listen and is run over by a car. He survives with a broken leg. At about this time, Soo In learns that she has leukemia but she keeps it from Hyun Woo. Jung Min accidentally finds out about her illness. He goes to Jason and tells him that he will win the case but Jason must find a cure for Soo In. Jung Min bribes Hyun Woo's star witness in the case to lie that Hyun Woo had bribed him for his testimony. Hyun Woo's case is jeopardized as well as his career and reputation.

Hyun Woo finds out from Jung Min about Soo In's illness. He is hurt she didn't tell him. He proposes to her. She refuses to marry him, assuring him that she will get well on her own. He tells her that he will not forgive her if she leaves him again but she does. When she learns about his troubles, she seeks out the witness to compel him to tell the truth. He eventually does and she confronts Jung Min. Jung Min tells her that he is willing to do anything to save her life. Their conversation is overheard and reported to Jason who sends his henchman to take care of the witness. Hyun Woo, who has been visiting the witness every night to find out the truth, finds the body and becomes the chief murder suspect.

Worried for each other, Soo In and Hyun Woo reunite and promise that they will not part again. Soo In's father is reluctant to agree to their marriage as he wants to spare Hyun Woo the pain of losing Soo In should she die. Soo In assures her father she will get well and her father finally agrees. They also get the tacit approval of Hyun Woo's father who was previously opposed to Soo In. At the wedding ceremony, the witness' 6 year old daughter spots Jason's henchman and identifies him as her father's murderer. Hyun Woo and Jung Min give chase and the henchman is arrested. Jason escapes to the airport but he is apprehended by Hyun Woo. Hyun Woo is late for his wedding but he is confident that Soo In and their guests are still waiting. They are and the couple is finally married.

Soo In collapses later in the night and at the hospital, the doctor tells Hyun Woo that her condition has deteriorated. Her only option is a bone marrow transplant. Hyun Woo receives a double blow when he finds out that Jason has been cleared of all charges. Jason approaches him and tells him that he can help find a cure for Soo In. However, Hyun Woo has to drop the case.

Hyun Woo and Soo In return to their new home and spend a happy day together. In the evening, Hyun Woo sadly tells Soo In that her condition has worsened. Soo In later recounts to Hyun Woo that several years before, she had donated her bone marrow to a little boy whose sister, although a match, was unable to do so, due to her weak health at the time. Hyun Woo urges her to contact the sister, Anna, and ask for her help but Soo In refuses. However, Hyun Woo secretly writes to Anna and she agrees to help.

Soo In discovers that Jason (the defendant) is also her benefactor who had commissioned the research she had conducted. The research was then used by Jason to help his own case. When Soo In realises she had been used, she sets out to help Hyun Woo with his case to redeem herself.

When Jason learns that Soo In will testify against him, he contacts Anna. Anna writes to Hyun Woo and tells him that she has changed her mind. However, she comes to Korea and is met by Jason. Jason later tells Hyun Woo that he has found a donor for Soo In but Hyun Woo must drop the case. The next day, Soo In receives a call telling her that a donor has been found. Whilst Soo In is excited, Hyun Woo is worried. He confronts Jason and is introduced to Anna. He reluctantly tells his associates that he can't continue with the case even though they are on the verge of winning. Soo In catches sight of Anna with Jason and she realizes the truth. She tells Hyun Woo she won't go through with the transplant. Hyun Woo is angry but she is adamant. Finally he relents and the next day tells his associates to continue with the trial. When Jung Min learns the truth, he begs Hyun Woo to reconsider but Hyun Woo stands firm. At the trial, much to Jason's surprise, Soo In doesn't testify. Jung Min stands as witness instead against Jason. Hyun Woo wins the trial and Jason is arrested.

Anna decides to go through with the transplant. During the operation, Jung Min asks Hyun Woo to play a game of basketball with him. It is quite funny to watch Hyun Woo as he is terrible at the game. They talk and Jung Min decides to stay on in Korea. The operation is successful and a happy Hyun Woo reminds Soo In of her promise to have a son who looks like him and a daughter who looks like her. Eventually, they have triplets.
